Mars

The Space: 1889 planet sourcebook Mars is now available!

Ever since telescopes have allowed it, mankind has observed the surface of Mars with ist massive canal structures. But only when Thomas Edison set foot on the Red Planet was the truth revealed: Mars is home to a culture whose ancestors built the canals. They used them to distribute the water of the polar caps and thus saved the dying planet from the inevitable. Their deeds have enabled the Martians to live on for tens of thousands of years.

Edison brought news from this world where many new civilizations waited to be discovered, all with their own customs, rites, beliefs, and world views. The British, the Germans, the French Commune, Belgian corporations, the Japanese, and the Russians all landed on Mars to found their own colonies. What brought economic boons and technological progress to the compliant city-states, instead brought exploitation, oppression, and war to the rest.

In this source book, we offer you an overview of the planet and its peoples, divided into eight great regions:

Join the British colonial efforts and the war against the militaristic Oenotrian Empire in the Central Basin, compete for allies, or fight for resources!

Experience the Eastern Basin (almost) as it once was before the human colonists arrived: Full of intrigue and border skirmishes between the strange city-states.

See for  yourself the inhuman  practices  of the  Earth  invaders in  the  Western Basin, where Martian rebels unify against the exploitation, and the tradition-bound Tossian Empire slowly rouses from its slumber.

Travel with the Caravans across the Eastern Desert, the region marked most strongly by the great fall, and search for ancient relics and secrets. See what Mars was once like in the lush relic Green Vein.

Rejuvenate trade in the Western Desertalong the Tea Road, the source of all cultural and goods exchanges between the peoples of this region—which is not unlike the Silk Road on Earth.

Travel the Northern Polar region and bring order to this lawless desert with nothing but your honor and your trusted muzzle loader.

Or end up in the Southern Polar region, where a lone man can rise all the way to warlord with a blade, some technology worshipped as magic, and an iron will.

Many canal cities are described in detail, as well as the backgrounds of Martian cultures and their history. The source book describes Martian technology—some of which is quite ancient—and provides numerous pieces of equipment you can use to enrich your game. Dozens of creatures and eight ready-to-play archetypes (with a focus on Martians) are presented. And, finally, an entire chapter is dedicated to the many secrets of the Red Planet …

Last but not least, the scenario The Emerald Waters will introduce your adventurers to the exciting world of Mars.

The dying Red Planet is waiting for your footprints in its dust!

This book is written for the Ubiquity version of the Space: 1889 RPG. Some chapters in it are based on information from the earlier booklet Marvels of Mars (Flora and Fauna of Mars, 21 pages; and Martian Technology, 6 pages).

Murder on the Ether Express

Murder on the Ether Express by Kieran Turley is a brand new 32-pages adventure:

The RMS Aetheria is a marvel of modern etheric engineering capable of incredible interplanetary speeds and, if the owners are to be believed, the fastest civilian ship in the solar system. Of course, this brash claim requires proof and the adventurers have been lucky enough to secure passage on the ship’s shakedown cruise, during which the vessel and her crew will be put through their paces.

They are not alone, however. The wealthy aristocrat Montague Harrington-Hyde has commandeered the ship for one of his famous business parties where, if rumor is to be believed, fortunes are made and lost. This isn’t the only thing they need to worry about, as the competition eyes the Aetheria with jealousy, and the Tossian government sent one of their ambassadors along for the ride.

Can they navigate the world of the aristocracy and rub shoulders with the elite without causing a stir or making the front page of The Times? With sabotage, political skullduggery, and maybe a murder or two in the cards, can they even survive this ship of secrets?

Murder on the Ether Express is an adventure for a veteran Gamemaster and players who are interested in an adventure based on investigation and social interaction.

Creatures of Mars

Mars—a dying planet, still far from dead!
In the vast steppes, in the sand of equatorial deserts, on the mountain tops, at the icy poles, in the massive artificial canals and in the ancient sewers of Martian cities, underneath the dry dust of Mars’ surface, and in the wide open of the cloudless skies: the Martian flora and fauna thrive everywhere and have managed to adapt to even the most unfavorable of environments.
Expand the game’s atmosphere by including herds of grazing eegars, a lens beetle lamp, or a tasty krolik dish with all six legs still attached. Confront your players with challenging combat encounters with a teshuwaan, a dust kraken, or even the legendary white ape. Alternatively, add some flavor to your game by having the adventurers participate in a gashant race or ambush them with a Deimos crawler—the deadliest weapon of the Worm Cult. This sourcebook contains descriptions and stats for more than sixty Creatures of Mars, for every purpose imaginable!
Wonders of the Martian Past

The Mars of today is but a pale shadow of its former glory, where great technological marvels lie hidden in the sand, long forgotten by the native Martians. For Martian technology had already reached its lofty peak by the time human weapons technology had evolved to the stage of throwing stones at each other. But the slow death of the planet halted the march of Martian technology, and now the secrets of the ancient Martians lie forgotten as Martian civilization continues to decay.
Discover the many varied roles of Martian crystals: shoot mighty rays with fire lances, communicate across the void with pair stones, or have mind blowing experiences with Martian mind crystals. Encounter amazing Martian robots or find out how ancient Martian cities were powered by telluric currents. Discover the ancient history of the Canal Builders themselves, and uncover their darkest secrets!
The second part of this sourcebook is dedicated to the Wonders of the Martian Past and contains background information about the technological history of Mars as well as detailed descriptions of more than 20 aspects of ancient Martian technology. Also included are two adventures centered around Martian technology.”
