3-POSTER MAP PDF

We were asked if the 3-Poster map set would be available as PDFs so we’ve decided to roll the PDFs of all three maps into the ‘PLUS’ bonus levels – so all backers of the appropriate levels will now receive PDF files of each map.

SPACE: 1889 SOUNDTRACK

We’re also unlocking the Space: 1889 Soundtrack which is being given to all the PLUS level and above backers as a MP3 download, with a physical CD of all the tracks being added as an purchasable ‘Add-On’ for £11 (+ shipping).

“It’s the year of the Lord 1889.

The British Empire extends over much of the globe and the German Reich Wilhelm II ascended to the throne last year. On the other side of the world, Japan is entering the industrial age, while the countries of South America are trying to find their place in the world. Technology, medicine and science have brought progress that would have been considered impossible a few decades ago. The industrialized nations exploit their technological advantage to dominate large parts of the rest of the world.

Much of this earth will be familiar to you, but there are differences… Mexico is ruled by an emperor, in France a social-democratic regime has been established that combines the beauty of the “Belle Epoque” with the ideal of social justice, the U.S. is broken after the civil war in the North and South.

But all these differences fade before the event that would change the world forever! In 1870, the brilliant inventor Thomas Edison tested the revolutionary “ether propeller”. With his help he set out to Mars – and, since he returned, the industrial countries race to hoist their flags on neighboring worlds. Today – 1889 – people have already visited every planet between the sun and the asteroid belt.

Aether sounds invites you on a musical journey through the known solar system. Visit Mercury, Venus, Mars, and the caves of the earth moon.

Ideal as background music for each Space: 1889 RPG round and other Steampunk RPG.”

As backer ‘MidnightBlue’ put it…

“Touchdown … Venus!”

Thanks to everyone we passed the £34,000 mark over night and that’s unlocked the Venus Sourcebook.

Every backer at DIGITAL RULEBOOK PLUS or RULEBOOK PLUS and above will now get the Venus Sourcebook PDF added completely free to their rewards as soon as it’s available.

We’ve also now added the Venus Sourcebook as a black & white softcover Add-On which you can get for £25 (+ shipping). This is cheaper than the eventual MSRP for the physical book and you can, as with all the physical rewards, either delay sending your books out until the last one on your list has been printed to reduce postage or break them down into separate or group shipments for extra postage charges. We’ll work with each of you and also give you the options again through backerkit after this campaign has wrapped.

NEW ADD ON:

+ Venus Sourcebook – The Venus Sourcebook will be roughly 190 pages and will not only feature expanded information about the history, geography, flora and fauna of Venus but also take a close look at the human settlements of the German, British, Italian and Russian colonists as well as the native population of lizardmen (and dinosaurs!). We’ll also be revealing ancient secrets that lie beneath the impenetrable jungles and dangerous swamps that surround them. This book will feature information about living, exploring and conquering the wilderness of Venus, as well as new rules, new archetypes, and hints for gamemasters to run extended campaigns on the greenhouse of our solar system. – add £25 (+ shipping) to your pledge.

Our next target is in £3,000 time with a new adventure by Shane Ivey and John Clements…

LOCKED £37,000 – Adventure (32 page) : “On the Trail of the Gods” by Shane Ivey (Arc Dream Entertainment; Delta Green; Wild Talents) and John Clements. Adventurers, explorers, and loyal subjects of the Empire must pursue a disreputable scientist and thwart a conspiracy of renegade Prussians. But is their quarry a victim needing rescue or a traitor to be brought to justice? The adventure takes them from the Great Exhibition in Scotland to the sands of Sudan, the jungles of Venus, and the deepest, deadliest mysteries of Mars. Every pledger for the Digital Rulebook Plus and the Rulebook Plus onwards will receive pdfs of this adventure for both ‘Space 1889 Ubiquity system’ and ‘Savage Worlds Red Mars’ for free as soon as it is available.

I’ll also be revealing another couple of stretch goals over the weekend plus another freebie that’s being added to all DIGITAL RULEBOOK PLUS and RULEBOOK PLUS and above pledge levels, which you’ll also be able to buy a physical copy of if you’d like.

Thanks for taking us to Venus and exploring the universe with us…

Angus, Patric and all the Space: 1889 Team!

Meet The German Team of Space: 1889

The English remake of Space: 1889 wouldn’t be possible without the ground laying work of our German Space-team.

As the German edition is not just a mere translation but a whole new version of the Space: 1889 RPG, a team of dedicated and experienced authors was needed to collect, expand, and supplement the existing texts from the old publications, and to reorganize and restructure them. Many new parts were also additionally written to further develop the Spaceverse and to offer brand new backgrounds which hadn’t been mentioned before.

This team mainly consists of experienced authors who have been writing for the (German) RPG market for a long time. Daniel Neugebauer, Christoph Maser and Ralf Sandfuchs are primarily working for the German edition of the Cthulhu RPG. Ingo Siekmann was the author of the first German Space: 1889 adventure published in a German RPG-magazine and is a true “veteran” of the Space: 1889 fan-base. Stephan Johach has worked as an author for the biggest German fantasy RPG (Das Schwarze Auge), and is particularly occupied with the technical aspects of the Spaceverse. Bjorn Beckert, another experienced RPG author, keeps an eye on the historical details, and thus completes our team.

Stefan Küppers, a long experienced editor, author and developer in the German RPG community, took over the responsible task of chief editor for the German Space: 1889 product line. A huge fan of Space: 1889 himself, he takes care of developing the new product line in such a way that every fellow Space fan will recognize it at once – and love it!

Screen Unlocked, Onwards to Venus! and Steve Kenson joins us…

Thanks to everyone we unlocked the Gamemaster’s Screen & NPC Booklet over the weekend and are well on our way to unlocking the Venus Sourcebook!

Every pledger for the Digital Rulebook Plus and the Rulebook Plus onwards will now receive also receive a pdf of both the screen and NPC booklet for free as soon as it is available.

Physical copies are now available as a purchasable add-on for backers who will be sent it ahead of the general retail release! This has now been added to the ‘Add-Ons’ section at a cost of £12 (+ shipping) to your pledge…

+ Space: 1889 Gamemaster’s Screen & NPC Booklet – A four-panel Space: 1889 Gamemaster’s Screen made of solid cardboard provides you with a clear overview of all the important rules and tables you need during a Ubiquity game session – and at the same time keeps your players group from peeking. Also included is a 32-page booklet detailing more than 60 Non-Player Characters. – add £12 (+ shipping) to your pledge.

Front Panels of the Gamemaster's Screen

In just over £3,000 time we’ll also be adding a fully fledged Venus sourcebook into the mix. Venus is one I’m particularly looking forward to as the planet hasn’t really been explored in previous editions of the game (as previously editions mainly focused on Mars).

Also, as we’ve unlocked the Screen, it’s time to announce another stretch goal – this one taking place after our miniatures.

Steve Kenson joins us on our explorations with a brand new 32 page adventure that see’s us remain on Venus for a little while longer…

LOCKED £43,000 – Adventure (32 pages): “Lost Romance on Venus” by Steve Kenson (Mutants & Masterminds; ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying). A reclusive romantic novelist has disappeared into the jungle lowlands of Venus, certainly no place for the literati! Can a band of bold explorers find her, and learn why she ventured into such dangerous territory in the first place? It’ll certainly be a tale to write about!

Every pledger for the Digital Rulebook Plus and the Rulebook Plus onwards will receive pdfs of this adventure for both ‘Space 1889 Ubiquity system’ and ‘Savage Worlds Red Mars’ for free as soon as it is available.

LOCKED £43,000 – ADD-ON Double Adventure Book 2 PRINT EDITION! This 64-page black & white softcover book will contain “On the Trail of the Gods” by Shane Ivey and John Clements and “Lost Romance on Venus” by Steve Kenson and will be available as a purchasable black & white softcover add-on for backers who will be sent it ahead of the general retail release! This will be available as both ‘Space 1889 Ubiquity system’ and ‘Savage Worlds Red Mars’ print products and will be added to the ‘Add-Ons’ section when unlocked!

Thanks for all of your continued support and please keep helping spread the word about the campaign on Facebook, Twitter, G+ and the various RPG forums out there!

We can now include some new full colour artwork in the main book and everyone who has pledged for a physical rulebook will also now be sent a pad of 24 Character Sheets completely free at the same time we send the rulebooks out! The retailers who have backed us will also be sent one pad per copy too.

Our next goal is at £29,000 which is for the Gamemaster Screen & NPC Booklet. You can read more about that in Update 5.

Front Panels of the Gamemaster's Screen

So, I guess it’s time to unveil our next two Stretch Goals…

First up, at £37,000, is a new adventure by Shane Ivey and John Clements…

…and then at £40,000 we’re unveiling our first set of miniatures. We have two concepts pieces to show you straight away and will post others as the campaign progresses and we receive the designs from our partners at Elemental Miniatures who are making the designs. The miniatures will be available as a set of 5 (four standard and one mounted) as a purchased Add-On at £25 (+ postage) during the Kickstarter campaign.

The first five miniatures are The Explorer, The Missionary, The Martian Princess (who are all based on the Archetype images shown in the Art Deals on our front page) and also a Highland Martian and a Hill Martian on Gashant.

Here’s a look at the first two pre-production concept designs…

Interactive Planets of Space: 1889

Hi everyone,

I hope you’re all having a great weekend as we move towards our next Stretch Goal of making the core rulebook nice and colourful?

This is just a quick update to show you something that you might enjoy.

A German fan team has been using Google Earth to make an interactive atlas of the populated planets of the Space: 1889 Universe.

They’ve produced a video in English (see below) but most of their website is mainly in German.

I, personally, think it’s a fantastic resource for the setting and hope you can get plenty of use out of it too!

Hope you like it!

Venus and Savage Worlds!

Thanks to you all we have just passed our second Stretch Goal – an all-new 32 page adventure called “Thunders of Venus” which is being penned by Steve Long.

This not only unlocks the adventure, which is going to be given free in PDF to every pledger for the Digital Rulebook Plus and the Rulebook Plus onwards, but also means our first new print Add-On is also unlocked… “Double Adventure Book 1” featuring both “The Order of the Invisible Eye” by John Wick and “Thunders of Venus” by Steve Long.

In addition to this we can also announce that the adventures that are being unlocked in this Kickstarter are *also* going to be available as Savage Worlds editions, supporting Pinnacle Entertainment’s “Space 1889: Red Sands” setting they released back in 2010.

SAVAGE_WORLDS_LICENSED

PDFs of the Savaged versions of the adventures will be included in the PDF deal, whilst print Add-Ons will be available to purchase separately. So you’ll get two versions of the adventure in PDF for both the Ubiquity system and the Savage Worlds system at no extra cost!

NEW ADD-ONS

Double Adventure Book 1 (Space: 1889 Uniquity) – Print version £10 (@ $15.00)

Double Adventure Book 1 (Red Sands Savage Worlds) – Print version £10 (@ $15.00)

Both of the above adventures will be @ £11.99 each (@ $17-18) to buy after the Kickstarter campaign.

Now Steve Long isn’t the only stretch goal dealing with Venus… yes, that’s right, we’re returning to Venus for the £34,000 Stretch Goal….

LOCKED £34,000 – THE VENUS SOURCEBOOK!

The Venus Sourcebook will be roughly 190 pages and will not only feature expanded information about the history, geography, flora and fauna of Venus but also take a close look at the human settlements of the German, British, Italian and Russian colonists as well as the native population of lizardmen (and dinosaurs!).

Every pledger for the Digital Rulebook Plus and the Rulebook Plus onwards will receive a pdf of this sourcebook for free as soon as it is available.

LOCKED ADD-ON £34,000 – THE VENUS SOURCEBOOK PRINT EDITION!

The Venus Sourcebook will be available as a purchasable black & white softcover add-on for backers who will be sent it ahead of the general retail release! This will be added to the ‘Add-Ons’ section when unlocked!

Here’s a look at the cover art for the Venus Sourcebook

Venus Sourcebook

We still have three more Stretch Goals between now and our return to Venus, which we can now start moving towards…

£23,000 – The Core Rulebook becomes colour

£26,000 – some new full colour artwork for the rulebook plus all backers of the physical rulebooks will be sent a free 24 Sheet Character Pad along with their rulebook!

£29,000 – The Gamemaster’s Screen & NPC Booklet (free in PDF to backers of the Digital Rulebook Plus and Rulebook Plus and higher levels – also available as a Print Add-On once unlocked).

Please help spread the word about the campaign, and also the new Savage Worlds Adventure options and the Venus Sourcebook, by participating in or starting threads on forums you frequent and mentioning our campaign on Twitter, Facebook, G+ or anywhere else you hang out where friends may be interested!

Many thanks for all of your support, I’m sure we can get to Venus and beyond, and we’ll have some more news for you all soon…

Angus & Patric

Artwork Part One – Interior Artwork

While planning the German version of the new Space: 1889 rulebook we tried to emulate the artwork typical for the Victorian era. After endless quests for the right artist(s) for this job, we finally found them in the most unexpected places – Finland and Canada. 😉

Most of the black & white interior artwork in the rulebook was done by Finnish artist Juha Makkonen. I actually don’t know for sure how I found him back then, but working with him was very easy going and you can see by the artwork he has done for us that he really liked working on this kind of stuff. He even admitted that he spent way too much time on getting the illustrations exactly “right” than he should have done. You can find more of his artwork on his website here.

And here is some of his artwork:

aphid

brontosaurus

raygun

As we planned more and more books, it became clear that we would need more artists to get everything done. Our second search lead us to rpg-industry veteran Eric Lofgren, who is also great in copying the Victorian copperplate engraving style we wanted for Space: 1889. You can find his b&w artwork as well as various covers and color illustrations here.

And also some samples of his work:

oblivion

time_machine

steam_colossus

But we also needed full color artwork for the archetypes: These were done by German artist Mia Steingraeber, who has already worked for us on a lot of other projects. You can find more of her artwork here.

You should already have seen her artwork for the core rulebook, since the originals are available as pledge rewards for this very project. So here we’d like to show you something new – one of the archetypes for the forthcoming German sourcebook for Venus 🙂

siedlerin

The next part of the artwork updates will cover the amazing cover artwork and new maps for Mars and Venus we got done by some very talented chaps! So stay tuned and look out!
