“Wonders of the Martian Past” unlocked!

The stretchgoal for the short sourcebooklet pdf – “Wonders of the Martian Past” by John Snead (Exalted, Changeling: The Lost, and Mage: The Awakening, & Eldritch Skies) got unlocked this night 🙂

Descriptions of ancient Martian technology, including information on how and when it was created, as well as details of various ruins containing valuable and sometimes dangerous devices. This supplement will also contain a write-up of an ancient & long-buried city now ruled by a mad Belgian count who is using a wealth of scavenged technology for evil purposes.

Every backer at DIGITAL PLUS and RULEBOOK PLUS Level (and higher) gets the pdf for free as soon as it is available 🙂

Now we should all prepare for lift-off to Mercury 🙂

Space: 1889 presentation video

When we released the German version of Space: 1889 last year, we did a little presentation video for it.

Now here is the dubbed English version 🙂

Sorry for the dubbing being a little out of sync sometimes.

Space: 1889 Miniature Add-On added!

We reached our Miniature-Stretchgoal, which means there now is a set of Space: 1889 miniatures available as an add-on. The first two designs were already revealed. Now here is a pic of the BIG miniature in the set.

gashant_space1889_miniature

The missing two miniatures will be a High Martian and the Missionary – we will show these designs probably next week, but rest assured that they are as awesome as the first three.

The Add-On is available for £25 (+ shipping if required)

Next stop – the adventure “Lost Romance on Venus” by Steve Kenson 🙂

Artwork part 2 – Covers

Today we take a look at the covers already done for the new Space: 1889. Although none of them is a secret anymore and are available on the internet in one place or another, we think it’s worthwhile to show them all in one place:

The main rulebook

space1889_cover

Done by renowned artist Slawomir Maniak from Poland. Actually, he now is so successful doing covers and magic cards, he is too expensive for us now ;). You can find more of his exceptional artwork here.

The first adventure compilation and the soundtrack

space1889_adventure_cover

Done by German artist Viktor Fetsch, who also did quite a lot of other – mainly fantasy-themed – covers for us in the past. His style is very fitting for what we have in mind for the look and feel of the Space-books, which means we will probably bother him with more commissions in the future J. You can find more of his art here.

He also did the awesome cover for the Venus sourcebook, which I won’t post here again, since we have shown that about 600 times in the last updates 😉

Cheers

Patric

The Mercury Sourcebook, a Sourcebooklet and Four More Adventure Stretch Goals Announced!

Hello everyone!

We’ve just added a whole host of new stretch goals on the front page of the campaign which should keep us busy for a while (partially prompted by my soon-to-occur vanishing act to Gen Con ;p)!

We have a brand new planet sourcebook to compliment the VENUS one we unlocked a few days ago – this time we’re travelling to MERCURY – another planet in the Space: 1889 universe that hasn’t been very well explored in previous editions until now. The below descripiton about the MERCURY Sourcebook is actually a little longer than that on the front page as we discovered that there’s a maximum amount of words we can use there (thus the nice new boxed image detailing all our pledge rewards that has appeared on the front page, allowing us to keep offering you stretch goals!).

We also have the first ‘Sourcebooklet’, hopefully a series of 32-page mini-sourcebooks on different aspects. We’ve managed to recruit John Snead to write the first one for us entitled “Wonders of the Martian Past“.

We’ve also unveiled four brand new adventures by industry stalwarts Gareth Hanrahan, Uli Lindner, Sarah Newton and Andrew Peregrine which we hope you will enjoy.

Here’s the full scoop…

LOCKED £46,000 – Sourcebooklet 1 (32 pages) – “Wonders of the Martian Past” by John Snead (Exalted, Changeling: The Lost, and Mage: The Awakening, & Eldritch Skies). Descriptions of ancient Martian technology, including for information about how and when it was created as well as details of various ruins containing valuable and sometimes dangerous devices. This supplement will also contain a write-up of an ancient & long-buried city now ruled by a mad Belgian Count who is using a wealth of scavenged technology for evil purposes. You can learn more about John Snead at: http://www.johnsnead.chaosbutterfly.net/

Every pledger for the Digital Rulebook Plus and the Rulebook Plus onwards will receive pdfs of this sourcebooklet for free as soon as it is available.

LOCKED £50,000 – THE MERCURY SOURCEBOOK! The German Space:1889 team is currently working on a sourcebook for Mercury, which is scheduled to be released early in 2014. The whole planet will be described on approximately 128 pages, completely with landscapes, special places, creatures, scenarios, artifacts and archetypes. Some of the latter could be especially interesting for backers of the kickstarter, since some of them have been reserved for the creator pledge level. The team is looking forward to working with the backers to create some cool and unique archetypes. 🙂

But what is Mercury exactly like in the Space:1889-universe? The planet is a world of extremes, with one side perpetually facing the sun and the other lying in eternal darkness. Between these to sides lies a narrow strip of temperate lands, through which a planet-circling waterway flows – called the world river. Here lie some small colonies and outposts of the earthly powers, although there is only little interest in small Mercury. Mars and Venus look much more compelling, but there is growing interest in the vast resources of the planet. Especially the riches of the boiling desert of the Hot Side, like molten tin and lead, or the frozen ammonia of the Dark Side could yield profits beyond compare – if you could manage to traverse the deathly wastelands of the extreme faces of Mercury …

Every pledger for the Digital Rulebook Plus and the Rulebook Plus onwards will receive a pdf of this sourcebook for free as soon as it is available.

LOCKED ADD-ON £50,000 – THE MERCURY SOURCEBOOK PRINT EDITION! The Mercury Sourcebook will become available as a purchasable black & white softcover add-on for backers, who will be sent it ahead of the general retail release! This will be added to the ‘Add-Ons’ section below when unlocked!

LOCKED £53,000 – Adventure (32 pages): “The Strange Land” by Gareth Hanrahan (Mongoose Traveller, The One Ring, & Night’s Black Agents). Lord Feltam-Hithe, a noted explorer and adventurer, returned from the Red Planet with a Martian boy. The alien child was the talk of London, as Martians on Earth are still a rarity. LOCKED £56,000 – Adventure (32 pages): “Murder on the Aether Express” by Uli Lindner (Das Schwarze Auge (The Dark Eye), Dungeonslayers, Deadlands). This will be available as both ‘Space 1889 Ubiquity system’ and ‘Savage Worlds Red Mars’ print products and will be added to the ‘Add-Ons’ section when unlocked!

LOCKED £59,000 – Adventure (32 pages): “Godslathe” by Sarah Newton (Achtung! Cthulhu; Mindjammer; Monsters & Magic). From an ancient Canal Martian ‘talking book’ traded in the bazaar of a distant city state comes an ancient legend – of a lost temple in the mysterious polar regions which once guarded the secret of the Warrior in Gold, a great hero or artefact which once united the scattered peoples of this dying world. Is it still there, in the frozen lands? And what is its secret? An eccentric professor emerges from the desert, half-mad with visions of great unearthly machines… Has Godslathe been found? And can Her Majesty’s Armed Forces secure it for the Empire, before the Kaiser or the Czar steal it for themselves? http://sarahnewtonwriter.com

Every pledger for the Digital Rulebook Plus and the Rulebook Plus onwards will receive pdfs of this adventure for both ‘Space 1889 Ubiquity system’ and ‘Savage Worlds Red Mars’ for free as soon as it is available.

LOCKED £62,000 – Adventure (32 pages): “Nocturne in the City of Lights” by Andrew Peregrine (Victoriana 2nd Ed; Hellcats & Hockeysticks). In a time when the delights of Mars or the dangers of Venus attract adventurers, there is still nothing quite like the decadence of Paris. But amidst the absinthe and ‘joie de vivre’ there is a darker side to the city. A visit to the theatre to see a renowned Martian opera singer embroils the adventurers is a dark plot to uncover a global mystery, and an ancient secret. You can learn more about Andrew Peregrine at http://www.corone.co.uk

SPACE: 1889 SOUNDTRACK

We’re also unlocking the Space: 1889 Soundtrack which is being given to all the PLUS level and above backers as a MP3 download, with a physical CD of all the tracks being added as an purchasable ‘Add-On’ for £11 (+ shipping).

“It’s the year of the Lord 1889.

The British Empire extends over much of the globe and the German Reich Wilhelm II ascended to the throne last year. On the other side of the world, Japan is entering the industrial age, while the countries of South America are trying to find their place in the world. Technology, medicine and science have brought progress that would have been considered impossible a few decades ago. The industrialized nations exploit their technological advantage to dominate large parts of the rest of the world.

Much of this earth will be familiar to you, but there are differences… Mexico is ruled by an emperor, in France a social-democratic regime has been established that combines the beauty of the “Belle Epoque” with the ideal of social justice, the U.S. is broken after the civil war in the North and South.

But all these differences fade before the event that would change the world forever! In 1870, the brilliant inventor Thomas Edison tested the revolutionary “ether propeller”. With his help he set out to Mars – and, since he returned, the industrial countries race to hoist their flags on neighboring worlds. Today – 1889 – people have already visited every planet between the sun and the asteroid belt.

Aether sounds invites you on a musical journey through the known solar system. Visit Mercury, Venus, Mars, and the caves of the earth moon.

Ideal as background music for each Space: 1889 RPG round and other Steampunk RPG.”

“Touchdown … Venus!”

As backer ‘MidnightBlue’ put it…

“Touchdown … Venus!”

Thanks to everyone we passed the £34,000 mark over night and that’s unlocked the Venus Sourcebook.

Every backer at DIGITAL RULEBOOK PLUS or RULEBOOK PLUS and above will now get the Venus Sourcebook PDF added completely free to their rewards as soon as it’s available.

We’ve also now added the Venus Sourcebook as a black & white softcover Add-On which you can get for £25 (+ shipping). This is cheaper than the eventual MSRP for the physical book and you can, as with all the physical rewards, either delay sending your books out until the last one on your list has been printed to reduce postage or break them down into separate or group shipments for extra postage charges. We’ll work with each of you and also give you the options again through backerkit after this campaign has wrapped.

NEW ADD ON:

+ Venus Sourcebook – The Venus Sourcebook will be roughly 190 pages and will not only feature expanded information about the history, geography, flora and fauna of Venus but also take a close look at the human settlements of the German, British, Italian and Russian colonists as well as the native population of lizardmen (and dinosaurs!). We’ll also be revealing ancient secrets that lie beneath the impenetrable jungles and dangerous swamps that surround them. This book will feature information about living, exploring and conquering the wilderness of Venus, as well as new rules, new archetypes, and hints for gamemasters to run extended campaigns on the greenhouse of our solar system. – add £25 (+ shipping) to your pledge.
